BIG BOYS

A unique blend of comedy and heartfelt drama, Big Boys challenges conventional stereotypes around body image and the sweet awkwardness of your first unrequited adolescent crush. An achingly brilliant queer coming-of-age classic.

Endearing teenager Jamie can barely contain his excitement for a camping getaway with his cousins. His peppy innocence may clash with the tiresome swagger of his brother Will, but he's intent on spending as much time as possible with his favorite cousin Allie. Jamie's carefully-planned agenda of games, stories, and Ina Garten-approved cookout recipes falls apart, however, when Allie unexpectedly shows up with her new boyfriend Dan. Not only does Jamie have to compete with Dan for Allie's attention, but Dan is — like Jamie — a big boy. And when Jamie begins to have romantically-charged daydreams about Dan, it's clear that he might just be developing a thing for big boys.

The film's strength lies in its nuanced portrayal of queer adolescence, focusing on Jamie's internal struggles and his journey towards self-acceptance. Co-starring Emily Deschanel (Bones), Taj Cross (PEN15), and Dora Madison (Friday Night Lights), this endlessly charming film is always on Jamie’s side, and with Isaac Krasner’s incredible breakthrough performance, so is the audience.
